MCV Officially Inaugurates Its Factory for Manufacturing Volvo Electric Buses Dedicated to Export to Europe

In the presence of H.E. Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport, Eng. Hazem El-Ashmouni – Governor of Sharqia, H.E. Ambassador of Sweden to Egypt, Ms. Anna Westerberg – President of Volvo Buses International … and welcomed by Eng. Karim Ghabbour – Chairman of (MCV), alongside senior executives from both MCV and Volvo.
In a new strategic step reflecting MCV’s commitment to strengthening its leading position in the bus manufacturing industry, the company announced the official inauguration of its latest factory in New Salheya City, Sharqia Governorate. The opening ceremony was attended by a distinguished group of senior officials, public figures, and industry experts.
The new factory is part of the company’s ambitious expansion plan to increase production capacity and provide high-quality products that meet the latest international standards. The facility has been designed and equipped with state-of-the-art bus manufacturing technologies to ensure operational efficiency while maintaining environmental sustainability.
During his speech at the opening ceremony, Eng. Karim Ghabbour – Chairman of MCV, stated:
“The inauguration of this new factory marks a milestone in the company’s journey of growth and expansion. We envisioned this project as a qualitative addition to national industry and a source of new job opportunities for youth, while also enhancing our competitiveness in global markets. The factory’s entire production capacity is dedicated exclusively to export to Europe.”
He added:
“Through this facility, our aim is not only to meet the growing demand for our products in European markets but also to expand into new markets, thereby supporting the national economy and reinforcing Egypt’s position as a distinguished regional industrial hub.”
The new factory is capable of producing buses tailored to European markets, with an annual production capacity of up to 1,200 units. These buses run entirely on electricity, aligning with global sustainability trends and reflecting the company’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility.
Ghabbour concluded:
“This inauguration is not just an expansion of infrastructure, but a practical step towards realizing the company’s future vision of being a key partner in driving industrial growth and economic development in Egypt and the region.”
The factory is expected to create more than 2,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, in addition to opening new avenues of collaboration with local suppliers, thereby strengthening value chains and enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian products.
During our brief tour of the factory, we observed the full manufacturing stages of the Volvo electric city bus (Model 9700), available in two versions: 12-meter and 18-meter (articulated).
On this occasion, Ms. Anna Westerberg – President of Volvo Buses International, stated during the press conference that future projects with MCV are already planned to develop other models for domestic use in Egypt, as well as for export to several other global and Middle Eastern markets.
