automechanika Shanghai 2026 highlights ..

collaborative ecosystem expansion and commercial vehicle transformation

As automotive companies navigate evolving market dynamics, business expansion requires an ecosystem-driven approach whereby entire networks move into new spaces, including market segments and geographical locations. This is particularly noticeable in China’s commercial vehicle sector as electrification grows across the market segment. Automechanika Shanghai brings these trends to light, enabling players to connect and strategise opportunities both at home and abroad. The fair will converge 7,600 exhibitors from 2 to 5 December at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) covering passenger and commercial vehicles with various powertrains.

Continual growth in the global automotive components market is reshaping the supply chain with value in high-growth segments across both ICE and electric platforms in the passenger and commercial vehicle sectors. One such advancement in the supply chain is ecosystem expansion as automotive companies seek collaboration to build resilient, localised networks. Rather than acting in isolation, businesses are entering markets alongside trusted partners.

Aion is one example of an EV car manufacturer, as an exhibitor, adopting an ecosystem approach to enter new markets. The company relies on localised bases in Thailand and Indonesia to expand complete vehicle manufacturing, parts production, battery charging infrastructure in Southeast Asia. Similarly, Li Auto’s overseas expansion includes investment to build a local assembly line in Kazakhstan. To support these further endeavours, Automechanika Shanghai’s platform enables carmakers to forge partnerships with overseas government bodies, component suppliers, distributors, and service networks in other countries to scale their global operations.

In line with collaborative expansion, Marelli from Italy, with its automotive lighting and sensors, is accelerating its growth across Asia Pacific. It leverages partnerships with dealers, repair shops, and industry partners to unify resources and local market expertise.

Joint ventures are another key growth strategy, as demonstrated by DDAC-DONGFENG DANA AXLE. The two brands partnered to share their expertise and resources in vehicle manufacturing and drivetrain systems, becoming one of Asia’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, exporting to Southeast Asia, South America, the Middle East and Europe. Taking this forward, the company looks to find new OEM partners for both commercial vehicles and speciality vehicles, in addition to up-and-coming commercial vehicle brands through platforms like Automechanika Shanghai.

At the same time, there are companies that offer specific solutions like AI software and data management for those seeking market entry. An example is MeiG, which offers a different approach by demonstrating how cockpits are evolving in China, from voice-controlled commands to task-oriented interactions through AI modules, and bringing this to overseas markets. Sigmastar Technology spotlights next-generation ADAS perception with the evolution of single-camera perception to multi-modal sensors to make real-time processing capabilities a core differentiator. Meanwhile, TecAlliance provides the digital infrastructure needed to enter various international markets seamlessly and in compliance with local standards. The brand relies on a vast global catalogue, digital trading platform and repair database to roll out product adaptations, establish market trust, and integrate into wider automotive supply chains.

Thus, by strategically moving component suppliers, software developers, infrastructure and service providers into overseas markets together, companies are creating complete ecosystems that ensure long-term stability and a stronger footprint in their respective locations.

Even so, aligning with new market standards is needed for companies expanding a global footprint. For instance, during Automechanika Shanghai, the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) will offer guidance to carmakers, parts suppliers and service providers about standards, quality assurance and carbon management through specialised zones, summits and matchmaking.

Electrification and upgrades in commercial vehicle sector
This ecosystem development is even more complex in the commercial vehicle segment; notwithstanding rapid electrification and intelligent transformation, commercial vehicles and fleets require more components, technologies and services to export a whole supply chain. While the segment can rely on base knowledge of passenger vehicles, many manufacturers are building up their product lines to tap into the prosperous commercial vehicle market.

With this, Henglong Group is developing advanced steering technologies tailored for light to heavy-duty trucks. The company’s technology has evolved from traditional hydraulic controls to advanced systems supporting Level 2 and higher autonomous driving, delivering improved manoeuvrability, safety, and operational efficiency to commercial fleets. Additionally, WLY produces transmission systems and gear shafts for electric and hybrid commercial vehicles, engineered to withstand heavy-duty and complex operating conditions.

The tyre and wheel segments are also adapting to meet the needs of heavy duty electric commercial vehicles. Dongfeng Wheel introduces specialised lightweighting technologies, products, and services aimed at enhancing vehicle efficiency and strength. Doublestar has developed dedicated innovations in the carcass structure and tread compounds.

For repair and maintenance workshops, FCAR provides localised after-sales service solutions for multiple brands and models, as well as auxiliary power supplies and emergency maintenance needs for commercial vehicles. MAXIMA features maintenance equipment and heavy-duty lifting solutions meeting international safety and quality standards. A notable part of its commercial vehicle development efforts includes the New Generation Mobile Column Lift, which offers modern and secure lifts to streamline workshop repair and maintenance.
